Events
ALS is getting more attention than ever. Here in Windsor-Essex County, there is a growing number of events to help raise awareness and funds for our local patients in need. Feel free to attend any of our events — everyone is always welcome. We encourage your participation and appreciate your help.
Our events page is now divided into three pages, ALS Windsor Walks and Bogeys Fore Beats, the Stubborn Buffalo Series, and Additional Events. Only upcoming and recent events will be featured on this main events page as a convenience.
Our 2010 Fundraising Year
Our A.L.S. Windsor Walk will take place on Sunday, September 19th at Sandpoint Park, at 10:00 AM. Pledge sheets are available here!
The final event in the Stubborn Buffalo Event Series is the Stubborn Buffalo 8 Miler, which will take place on Saturday, November 6th, 2010, at CM Wilson's Conversation Area. Registration is $35 for the competitive 8 Miler and $20 for the non-competitive 5k run/walk. Watch this space for entry and pledge forms! Hats off to the Scotia Bank and Harrison Pensa, who are the lead corporate sponsors for this entire series of events. We are most grateful to all sponsors, and it is our hope to grow each of the events in the future.
We received the funds raised by the Chatham-Kent Quilters' Guild Quilt Raffle at their biennial quilt show, Stitches in Bloom. The quilt show will took place in the beginning of May and featured fabulous quilts by the members of the guild. We thank the members of the Chatham-Kent Quilters' Guild for their great contribution.
The Windsor Area Street Rods Can-Am National Car Show was Sunday, July 11th at Gil Maure Park on Front Rd in LaSalle and attracted some great vehicles. We have been most fortunate to have been the designated charity for the 2nd year in a row, and have raised more than $6,000 because of them. Thank you Windsor Area Street Rods! There is a photo gallery available here.
A wine tasting and tour took place at Smith and Wilson Wine Estates on May 15th. This was a lovely event that included various pairings of food and wine, a tour of the winery, and a silent auction. It was a beautiful afternoon and was a great opportunity for the non-athletic supporters.
The Cycle with the Herd bicycle event replaced the spin event that was held indoors on stationary bicycles. Despite tough competition of other riding events in the area, 27 riders participated in this inaugural non-competitive event that included both a 25km and a 65km route. Pictures from this event are available here.
The Stubborn Buffalo Event Series hosted their 3rd Annual Adelard Van Praet Memorial Golf Tournament at Country View Golf Course on Saturday, July 17th, and this event was very well-attended!
